What is Oxford Fabric?
Oxford cloth is a woven fabric used to make dress shirts. It is a basket weave fabric that is sometimes used to make oxford shirts and can be worn for both formal and casual occasions.
The broad appeal of Oxford fabrics stems from their versatile design and high yields.
Cotton was previously the main fiber used to make Oxford fabrics, but a variety of alternative fibers, including polyester, viscose, and other synthetic fibers, are now used.
Types of Oxford cloth
Plain weave oxford
This smooth fabric is soft and does not wrinkle due to the way it is woven. Two woven yarns are mixed with a heavier grammage yarn to make the fabric smooth and soft.
Precision Oxford
Pinpoint Oxford is an oxford fabric made from finer yarns and a tighter basket weave that is softer and smoother than a regular oxford. The gloss is not as strong as that of the Royal Oxford. Its strands are thinner and lighter than those used to make standard Oxford fabrics, but thicker than those used to make Royal Oxford fabrics. Clothes made from needlepoint fabrics are very comfortable, but people should be careful around sharp objects when wearing them.
Royal Oxford
It is the smoothest of the Oxford fabrics and has the usual sheen and hand. Made from finer, lighter threads than those used in regular oxford and needlepoint oxfords, this fabric is noticeably smoother, brighter and thinner than comparable fabrics. It has a more pronounced texture and noticeable yarn sheen because its weave is more prominent and intricate than needlepoint or standard oxford. Royal Oxford University is an excellent choice for formal events.
